Italian writer and journalist Italo Calvino was born on 15 October 1923, in Cuba, and died on 19 September 1985, in Italy. He has been one of the most important names in Italian culture after the 2nd World War. Apart from his fictional writings, he was also known with his membership of the Communist Party and his job in Einaudi Publishing House. He was acknowledged as a Postmodernist writer.
