"Viewing Text & Reading Image" has finished!

|
The 2nd workshop titled "Viewing Text & Reading Image" has been completed with an exhibition in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Economics. The workshop constituted a part of FFD 102 Art and Design Studio II. The participants worked on a city from Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino (Octavia, Ersilia, Baucis, Argia, and Olinda), and visualized the text in 2D and/or 3D. Besides, they wrote a story for a missing city in the book, and also designed the visual field of that city with its textual field. Thanks all of the participants for their great efforts, and successful works!

DESCRIPTION:

The 2nd workshop is going to be held at Izmir University of Economics, as a part of FFD 102 Art and Design Studio II, on 15th April Monday and 18th April Thursday, with the same conception. 11 students are working on the stories selected from Invisible CitiesOctavia (p.75), Ersilia (p.76), Bauci (p.77), Argia (p.126) and Olinda (pp.129-30). The workshop combines the phases of City in Text and Text in Eye, and covers two steps:

1.  The participants work on a short-story describing an invisible city from the book, analyze and abstract it, and translate its “textual field/volume” into the “visual one.” (Each student will work as a part of two/three-person team.)
 -      They will produce a “city-guide” in the format of either an information/presentation board or a booklet.
-      They will synchronically construct a “model” representing the related city.
-      They are free to decide on the production technique(s) as well as the final sizes of all visual products.

2.  “There is a missing story in Invisible Cities.” The participants explore/design this missing-city by writing a short-story of their own. (They will work individually, with max. of 200 words.)

City in Text has visualized!

|
The workshop of City in Text was held on 9 April 2013 Tuesday, at IYTE, with a nice and joyous participation. The workshop covered the visualization of the cities named Octavia (p. 75), Ersilia (p. 76), and Argia (p. 126), which were selected from the book of Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. It was realized in 3 sections composed of 14 participants grouped in a team of 4/5-persons. The workshop began with a brief presentation about Calvino and Invisible Cities, and ended with the abstraction of the textual cities, and translation of them into the visual context by 3 and 2 dimensional media.

We thank dear all student-participants, IYTE Design Community, and dear colleagues who rooted for us during the process.
